Absolutely stunning top quality Edwards & Roberts Pedestal Desk. This desk has an unusual serpentine gadrooned edge with the lower part of the top also having a bead and dash moulding. Canted edge decoration to both corners of the pedestals. Nine drawers that have the finest dovetailed joints and are mahogany lined. All the flame grained mahogany veneered drawers have their original working locks and key. Out swept bracket feet hide the original china castors which run really well. This desk comes in three parts for easy transportation. The middle drawer is stamped Edwards & Roberts Wardour Street London. The red leather to the top is original to the desk and it is rare to find a survivor in such good condition.,
Edwards and Roberts were one of the best English antique furniture cabinet makers of the second half of the nineteenth century. Founded in 1845 trading as ‘Edwards and Roberts’ from 21 Wardour Street as Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture’.
The company became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers producing high quality antique furniture, and good copies of 18th and 19th century English and French antique furniture.
Their workmanship was of the highest quality. Their antique furniture was made with the best quality timbers, with finely figured mahogany, burr walnut and satinwood.
