Circa 1860, early Victorian rosewood davenport. The large rectangular shaped davenport has a three quarter gallery and a leather writing surface. Inside is a wonderful birds eye maple veneered interior with 3 small drawers. The lid is held in place by a brass bracket. On one side is a small drawer for holding pens and below this are 4 drawers which are graduating and have brass circular escutcheons and brass knobs. On the opposite side is a similar formation of dummy drawers. The davenport is polished on the back and has a fielded panel. At the front is a fielded panel, a cut back section for your feet, and the whole piece is supported by two solid rosewood barley sugar columns which have carved bases. The whole piece stands on four squat bun feet. Excellent condition, good colour, sturdy and functional.
