Early S.E. Railway Clock from Chelsfield Station
This is a rare early and lovely South Eastern Railway (#386) antique clock. The SER antique clock records show that this clock was last in use at Chelsfield Station Booking Hall. It dates from around 1865.
The English fusee movement is of high quality, typical of the London style, and has rectangular plates. The quality English movement has been cleaned and is in perfect working order.
This clock has a 14-inch rosewood cased iron dial with a cast brass bezel. The dial is original but had been repainted at some point to remove some of the wording, so it has been restored to what it would have been originally.
The clock has four tapered pegs that hold the casing to the clock face, dial and clock works. The clock also has one side access door and a bottom door, both with brass levers to securely fasten them closed.
The back plate is stamped with the SE cartouche as is the arm of the pendulum. The weight of the pendulum however is a replacement.
