Early 20th Century Doctors examination bed Examination bed mahogany day bed %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This fantastic versatile piece of antique furniture is made from mahogany and upholstered with faux black leather. The "head" side of the couch erects in increments from fully horizontal to nearly vertical. The legs are turned and terminate on sturdy brass casters. A sliding panel, fitted underneath, slides out either way. This was originally used for placing Xrays on but is now a perfect "side table". This amazing examination bed came from a doctor’s surgery in Newport, Wales when it closed down recently. The bed was manufactured by Cuxon Gerrard & Co Ltd. in the late 1920s. The doctor I acquired it from bought it from another doctor in the 1980s for £25 who bought it new in 1928. Unfortunately, the original receipt was lost when clearing out the surgery when it closed down.
