An 18th century Elm Coffer. The attractive simplicity of form comes from the traditional 6 plank nailed construction. It has a neat moulded edge and a low front moulded strip at the base of the coffer. High arched sides provides the legs and also gives style and shape to the piece. A good waxed surface further enhances the warmth of the the elm.
There has been some careful repair to the front of the legs, for appearance and strength, and one back leg has been left with its natural deterioration. The iron-work is all old, one hinge having been replaced at some time. The interior is clean. Circa 1720.
