Drocourt carriage clock - Porcelain panels
This is a superb and very attractive carriage antique clock of French manufacture dating from the last quarter of the nineteenth century by one of the finest makers their time , Pierre and Alfred Drocourt.
Pierre & Alfred Drocourt were one of the top makers of carriage antique clocks in the mid to late Victorian period, having a factory at Saint-Nicolas-d’Ailermont in France, which was the most important town for carriage clock manufacture at the time. They also had premises in Paris at Rue Debelleyme 28 and Rue de Limoges.
Pierre & Alfred Drocourt made superb carriage clocks that were often decorative and were awarded numerous medals at exhibitions, such as the Bronze Medal at Paris 1867, the Silver at Paris 1878 and the gold at Paris in 1889.
The son, Alfred Drocourt, succeeded his father Pierre Drocourt sometime in the 1870s
Please see the excellent article by Leigh Extence who has conducted in depth research into this firm.
This clock is numbered 6387 and has a hidden Drocourt stamp between the plates.
The style and type of case is also typical being of Gorge style which is beautifully engraved on all sides.
This fine clock is enhanced by the pink porcelain panel depicting cherubs to all sides including the top . The detail and subject matter is quite exquisite and although photographed quite well they cannot totally show the very fine detail and skin tone that can be seen by the human eye.Their condition is perfect and without damage with only a small amount of the gilt rubbed
The quality of this clock is outstanding and of a very good size being only 6 inches tall to the top of the handle and 5 inches tall with the handle down.just under 3 1/2 inches wide and 3 deep..
The beautifully made 8 day duration movement strikes the hours and half hours on a coiled gong. The clocks also has repeat facility activated by a button on top of the case
The overall condition is excellent as can be seen from the images having been professionally cleaned and serviced .
The beveled glass is perfect and the lever platform escapement original.
I am sure that the condition will delight the most discerning customer.
The photographs are not particularly flattering and potential buyers are very welcome to view the clock to see how nice it is in the flesh
