English Fusee Carriage Clock James Voak Of London
This is an exquisite and most rare carriage clock of English manufacture dating from the middle of the 19th century which is in lovely original condition.
It was made by James Voak who worked in London from 1851 to 1869.
English fusee carriage clocks represent the finest of Victorian clock making and rarely come onto the market for sale , certainly not for less than five figures . This particular item has been sourced from a private collection
The images with the light background are an accurate representation of the item whilst the ones with the dark background have be lit in such a way to illustrate the fine detail in the engraving.
The images should show prospective buyers all they need to see but a personal inspection is very welcome.
The detail and delicacy are quite remarkable as can be seen from the images and the original fire gilding is in excellent order.
The engraving over the entirety of the case is particularly well executed and interestingly there is substantial evidence that Thomas Cole made cases such as this for the London trade and the quality is certainly up to those standards although I cannot find any markings.
The silvered and engraved dial retains its original blued spade hands
The 8 day duration chain driven fusee movement is of the finest London quality with five spoked wheels and a lever escapement. The name of the maker is nicely engraved on the back plate.
It is approximately 5 inches high (handle raised) 3 inches wide and 2 1/4 inches deep
The overall condition simply as good as anyone could expect for a clock of this age. The movement is working perfectly and the gilding superb.
Although I provide detailed photographs to the best of my ability this clock really needs to be personally viewed to appreciate to quality.
