An interesting dated German pewter plate with an engraving in the centre depicting a gentleman and two ladies, on the rim is the date 1690 and the initials H W H. All round the rim is the following wording ‘BILDNIS DES WOHLEHRBAREN CONSVLS VALENTIN DEHMAR V SEINER ZWEITEN TOCHTER HANNA V EVA’ which translates as ‘PORTRAIT OF THE WELL-TEACHABLE CONSVLS VALENTIN DEHMAR V HIS SECOND DAUGHTER HANNA V EVA. This plate is well marked on the back and is in good original condition. Sizes: 9 ¼ “(24cms) diameter, 1”(2 ½ cms) deep. Date circa 1690. I have been in the antiques business since 1962, starting in the family business in Staffordshire.
In the early 1970’s I moved to Hertfordshire where I opened my own business and created a limited company.
