This is a very pretty Chinese hongmu opium table with a panelled rectangular top, a pierced frieze carved with dragons and end panels carved with bats, standing on curved legs and scroll feet, dating from the late 19th Century or early 20th Century. The quality of the carving is particularly fine. Originally covered in a dark stain this has all but worn away from the top and the higher relief areas of the carved frieze revealing the dark red of the tropical wood which nicely contrasts with lower relief areas that have retained the stain.

Condition: The table is in good condition with several marks and a few shrinkage splits as one would expect in a table of this age. All joints, however, are firm and nothing is loose. Please ask if you would like to see additional photographs.
