Charles II Oak Dresser with Superb Patina c.1670
A very handsome 17th Century solid oak dresser. The three frieze drawers each with geometric mouldings, the waist moulding lovely also and the twin plank top with oversailing border.
With a superb colour and natural patina, the drawers with original oak linings in very good and usable condition. The drawers open smoothly and close properly.
Condition: very good for age with no significant repairs, worm or other nasties. The two rear legs have been professionally re-tipped at some time (probably 19th Century) by a short amount and this is usual and a reflection of the years of wear, damp floors etc., that the dresser has sat on over the last three hundred and fifty years.
Solid brass handles and escutcheons are George II c. 1740 in date and are replacements for the original drop handles, lovely wear and colour to these and they appear to have been on the dresser for most of its life. All three original 17th century iron locks are present and working and there is a working key which is not original but works well.
Lovely turned legs to the front, the whole dresser extremely robust and solid throughout.
A heavy, solid and usable example, made by a skilled hand in c. 1670, and a lovely piece of early English oak antique furniture.
Dimensions are:
81 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep and 33 inches high.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
