Camphor Wood Sea Chest c.1840.
A great relic from the days of long sea passages, this mid 19th.c. brass travelling chest is of solid camphor wood, which not only lent its attractive aroma to garments stored inside but also protected them from insects and moths. Cleaned and polished in our workshops it is original throughout including the heavy brass handles on each end. The flat top means it would serve well as an unusual coffee table.
