Circa 1870, rare two-part campaign secretaire chest in figured mahogany with brass corners and strapping, inset military handles and patented Bramah locks stamped ‘Day and Son, 353 Strand, London’. The deep central secretaire drawer with birdseye maple drawers, pigeonholes and gilt-tooled burgundy leather writing surface embossed with ‘Day and Son’ is flanked by 2 pairs of shallow drawers all with elm and ash liners. The lower section has 3 long graduated drawers and is all standing on original bun feet. William Day and his company of 353 Strand, London were famous campaign antique furniture makers who counted the nobility of the day as their clientele.
