Brass Pot Stand, Kinco, England, 1924-39
Here we have a very striking brass pot stand made between the wars by Kinco. Kinco started making art metalware in 1924 at their factory in Eden Street in Kingston-upon-Thames, from where the company took its name. Around 1930 they moved to larger premises across the river in Twickenham and carried on until the outbreak of war in 1939.
The ornate Persian inspired design was machine made and the background colour, in this case black, was carefully added by hand. Both Queen Mary and the future Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother were enthusiastic purchasers of Kinco products.
Kinco took much of their inspiration from Eastern designs and this pot stand is part of their "Persian" range. It is a very distinctive design. The pot stand sits on 4 bun feet.
Condition is very good with only the most minimal amount of wear despite being over 80 years old. It sits firmly on a flat surface and is a perfectly practical piece to use today as well as being very decorative.
The pot stand is 16.4cm / 7.2" in diameter, so easily large enough for most serving dishes or pots that you might want to put on the dining table.
This is a stylish and unusual period piece which can be accurately dated to the period 1924 to 1939 as this was the only time during which Kinco were producing these items.
Shipping cost in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
