Scottish Arts & Crafts Solid Oak Settle Bench made by Wylie & Lochhead of Glasgow Scottish makers of high quality arts and crafts Glasgow school antique furniture.
The settle is of lovely small proportions made to seat just 2 people the solid oak with a wonderful colour with a pair of fielded panels to the back and carved Scottish Celtic Knot design carved along the top back rail and 2 very useful storage drawers to the bench seat base and shaped side panels the solid oak seat has a later cushion installed covred in a checked cream fabric.
The settle is a stunning example of Glasgow school arts and crafts antique furniture the design possibly attributed
to a design by Ernest Archibald Taylor the leading well known designer for wylie & lochhead of Glasgow school furniture
The settle has the Wyllie and Lochhead makers plate reading Wylie & Lochhead ltd 45 Buchanan Street Glasgow to the back rail of the bench settle.

Wylie & Lochhead are a extremely well respected Glasgow based manufacturer of fine furniture they traded from 1829 in one of Victorian Glasgow's first iron-framed warehouses at 28 argyle street In 1855 wylie and lochhead moved to 45 buchanan street and are important furniture makers for the history of Scottish furniture of the 19th and early 20th century they employed important leading Scottish designers from the Glasgow collages including the Glasgow school of art the leading glasgow school designers, designing for Wylie and lockhead were A.E.Taylor and John Ednie and George Logan.
Arts and Crafts furniture by wylie and lockhead furniture in the Glasgow style was exhibited in 1901 at the Glasgow international exhibition Three young designers created the range for wylie and lochhead Ernest Archibald Taylor (1874–1951),John Ednie (1876–1934) and George Logan (1866–1939).
