Art deco ceramic sailing ship with crackle glaze in cream by LeJan,c1930s. In excellent condition, no damage or restoration. Height 49cm. Length 37cm. Width 11.5cm.
Lejan (often signed as Le Jan) was a prominent French sculptor active during the Art Deco period, particularly in the 1920s and 1930s. He is best known for his stylized ceramic animal figures and decorative objects produced for the Faïencerie d'Orchies in northern France.
His work is characterized by the use of crackle-glazed earthenware (craquelé) in vibrant colours like emerald green and turquoise, as well as classic cream and white. (C20 KF)
