In General
Internationally renowned Mid-Century Modern Swedish designer, ceramicist and painter Anna - Lisa Thomson for famous ceramic company Upsala-Ekeby, Spectra Series 28 cm decorative wall plate or bowl, 1951-1962. A stunning and vibrant Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern decorative wall plate or bowl in perfect condition, designed and produced in 1951-1962. A statement collectors piece - an eye catching item in a contemporary interior, whilst also representing Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern design history. It is amazing that this piece is in perfect condition with such brilliant colours given that it is over 60 years old. Often these examples are chipped and/or have dulled over time.

A striking tropical underwater scene showing brightly coloured tropical fish, corals, sea shells and seaweed which highlights one of Anna-Lisa Thomson's innovations being contrasting - here she has contrasted dark roughly textured stoneware with high gloss glazes in white, orange, green, yellow, purple and blue's.

Anna-Lisa Thomson was one of the first female designers to join the ceramic firm Upsala Ekeby ceramic's in 1933. She became famous as a leading designer of innovative Swedish ceramic Mid-Century Modern design of the 20th Century. Anna-Lisa Thomson led the way in testing new materials and decorative techniques. She developed a signature style, taking her inspiration from the natural world. Her designs were simple with clean natural lines. She won many awards including at the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair and at the International Exposition in 1937 in Paris. Her pieces can also be seen at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
