An antique Victorian cast iron and brass reading stand or music stand with a mahogany book rest with makers label. The angle and position of the book rest is adjustable by means of a brass screw fitting. There is also a brass screw fitting on the upright which is fully adjustable in height. With makers mark to the bookrest “Alfred Carter 47 Holborn Viaduct London”.

Solid and sturdy with wear and marks commensurate with age. The base appears to have been recently re-painted.
