This is an antique alabaster marble column support in the Greek taste dating to the Victorian era.

Raised on an octagonal platform surmounted by concentric turned plates, the column rises from a bulbous, gadrooned vase that together anchor the piece and offer a stable platform above.

The tapering column is decorated with a helical reeding and, in classical proportion, is dressed with a collar featuring a reciprocating fret. Another plain band terminates the column beneath the flat, platform top.

The soft white, alabaster marble gently glows and is attractively grained in the base section. The column carries the odd minor dink as one would expect in a piece of this age but nothing that detracts from the overall appeal.
