This is an antique robe chest. A Japanese, papered storage trunk with oriental Art Deco taste, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1920.
Wonderfully hand-painted, decorative storage box with superb detail
Displays a desirable aged patina and pleasingly clean throughout
Papered over wood frame, with generous proportion
Some light weathering to the lid, the base being remarkably fresh in appearance
Hand decorated with courtyard scenes of several well-dressed figures
Thick lid held securely by a circular brass clasp, accentuated with engraved detail
