This is an antique single-piece show desk. An English, oak and leather pedestal desk for central room placement by Merryweather & Son, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
Superb showpiece desk, with fully finished form and attractive appearance
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
Warm biscuit hues accentuate the finely figured Oak stocks
Substantial, single piece nature being rare and unusual
Presented as a wide desktop with inset drawer boxes, over two banks of four graduated drawers
Original brown leather skiver inlaid to the top, embossed with scrolled fan border
Trio of drawers across the apron, each dressed with small brass pulls
Deeply formed fascia accentuated with chased arcade moulding in relief
Distinctive narrow kneehole, furnished with shaped apron brackets
Set within each pedestal, the lower drawers dressed with brass drop handles
Brass-lined locks to each fascia — untested, key absent
Middle drawer presents a maker's plaque for Merryweather & Sons - Holloway, London
The whole standing upon shaped bracket feet, with fully panelled back
