This is an antique Monoplane folding cake stand. An English, mahogany afternoon tea table, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910.
Fascinating folding cake stand with patented mechanism
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
Quality mahogany stocks show fine grain interest
Rich caramel hues radiate beneath a wax polish finish
Arranged as five circular stands with tiered edges and a diameter of 19cm (7.5")
Rotating upon a central pivot, the stand reaches the horizontal plane
From here, a further two stands smoothly fan outwards
Sliding latch locks securely into place - lift outwards and up to return the stand to its upright position
Shaped lifting handle with arched form stands above the whole
Oval motif to centre pivot with small domed fixtures in contrasting hues
Emblem to rear reads 'The Monoplane' registered trademark. British Patent No 222,276
Supports united by a diamond-shaped stretcher rail above shaped trestle legs with discrete slipper feet
