Antique Mahogany Book Trough on Legs
A most unusual early XX Century Mahogany Book Table.
It is in fact supported by two slender turned tapering delicate columns on swept cabriole feet and joined by a turned stretcher.
It is marked underneath with the original plaque for Heelas Ltd by appointment to the King - Complete House Furnishers Reading. The story of this renowned family business, started in the mid 19th C as a drapery business and evolved very much towards house furnishings after a couple of decades, can be found here
Small and light and extremely functional, having quite a generous capacity for its size.
