This is an antique handpainted marriage or dowry chest which originates from Northern Europe and dates from the turn of the century. It is crafted in solid pine and has been lovingly handpainted to all sides. In fact it has the date it was painted as part of the design, the year being 1907. The paint is rubbed and worn now after years of use and has a wonderful soft look to it. The hinged lidded coffer has a candle box inside and has very decorative iron work both to the top and the front. This storage box would look delightful in any setting and would also make a fine coffee table. It is a great size, measuring 124 cms long, 57 cms high and 50 cms deep.
