Description:
Here is a fine quality George III oak low farmhouse dresser base, circa 1770, with narrow proportions (5ft 6⅞” wide) and in good condition. The style of dresser originates from the counties of Shropshire or Cheshire, within the North West region of England. The dresser measures 5ft 6⅞” wide and boasts its original rich oxblood colour and patination. The dresser comprises a stunning single-plank oak top with an up-stand, above a solid oak frame. The top features an elegant reverse cavetto moulding to the underside and an ovolo moulding to the two-plank top. The dresser incorporates three large cock beaded drawers. The two drawers either side feature dummy locks, while the centre drawer incorporates a working lock and working key. The drawer fronts incorporate brass key escutcheons brass swan neck handles and brass back plates. The brass handles are old period Victorian replacements. The drawer linings and bottoms are oak lined and constructed with hand dovetail joints. The dresser is raised on square legs to the front and rear, with an attractively shaped apron, a single plank backboard to the rear, and the frame as a whole is built using with the traditional peg construction method.
The dresser features a superb rich oxblood colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received (it cannot be recreated by re-polishing).
The dresser would look superb in any hallway, kitchen or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.

The dresser is in good condition, which is commensurate with its age. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and top, including inside of drawers, but nothing significant considering the age of them. The drawer fronts incorporate old period Victorian brass replacement handles. The central drawer retains its lock, which is in good working condition and comes with a key. The two outer drawers feature dummy locks. The dresser is raised on its original legs. The dresser has been cleaned and wax polished in our workshops. As the dresser boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic rich oxblood oak colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The dresser is well constructed, solid in joint with no loose movements and is ready to be used.
