Antique Georgian Mahogany Pair of Chairs c1760-80
These are Georgian Mahogany Chippendale Chairs c1760-90. These Chairs were made in the third quarter of the 18th Century whilst Chippendale was alive, not by him but a great pair none the less. Can I here you ask why they are not by him?
Well its well documented that Chippendales Chairs were screwed to a Board underneath with 2 screws on each side of the frame then the Board with the chairs on were put in the cart for delivery.
These chairs are raised on cabriole legs with pointed feet with an accentuated leg. The front aprons are shaped as well as the sides. The quality of craftsmanship and weight in each of these chairs is immense seeing as they are 250 years old. The back legs are swept with heavily chamfered stop chamfers on them. The back splats are classic Chippendale from his Furniture Directorate.
The seats have different woolwork patterns on them, a great pair of chairs that shout quality.
When these pieces was made General Cornwallis had not surrended at Yorktwon (1781), the battle of the Nile hadnt been considered (1798) and the Napoleonic Wars were not yet thought about, we were the greatest Empire on the planet from a little island in the Northern hemipshere. What could these pieces tell us about the world and ourselves.
These are great chairs but are 250 years old and have had repairs.
