Antique French Oak Double Bed

A superb antique late 19th Century French double bed in beautifully figured oak. It boasts a superbly carved crest on the headboard over a carved top rail topped with turned finials. The footboard and headboard feature geometric carved panels and it is supported by turned feet. The whole piece is in a wonderfully mellow coloured oak with good original patina.
The bed is 140cm wide, so would accommodate a double mattress however the rails are only 133cm wide (at the top – 135cm at the sides). So in order to fit a standard UK double mattress you would need a base that either sits inside the rails and is the same level/height as the rails (custom made bases can be bought online) or put a base directly on top of the rails.
No base or mattress included.

Good colour and patina. Solid and sturdy. Finials are later replacements. General wear and marks commensurate with age.
