This is a fabulous dinner gong in the form of an eagle dating from around 1880. Of excellent quality, this has marks for William Tonks and Son to the reverse of the shield. The gilt eagle head is wonderfully cast in great detail and is mounted upon a smart solid oak shield with a fabulous colour and excellent patina. The eagle has a serpent in his beak and both the solid gong and the original leather covered beater hang below. Quite a rare piece and in excellent condition, the oak shield measures 32 cms cms high and 20 cms wide. The eagle has an overall depth of 28 cms while the gong itself is 26 cms in diameter.
