This is a fine and most attractive antique oak coffer in lovely order dating from the late 18th century, circa 1790. The chest is in lovely condition with a really good colour and patina and is attractively carved throughout. This is traditionally constructed with peg dowel jointing, it has its original hand forged hoop and ring wire hinges in good functioning order, the original candlebox inside and remarkably still has its original key with fully working lock. The chest is raised on traditional stile feet and has imposing proportions measuring 140cms by 58cms by 71cms high. This has with it a purchase receipt from 1927 coming from Veitch Antiques of Inverness and London for the grand sum of £20 and 10 shillings which equates to £1250 in todays money.
This solid chest is in good sound order and is a really characterful period piece.
