William Vile and John Cobb were in partnership between 1750 and 1764 from premises at 72 St. Martin’s Lane and held the Royal Warrant from 1761 until April 1764. Much of their finest antique furniture was supplied to the Royal Household. W J Gravener Antiques is a family owned business, started in 1963 by William who was joined by son, Mark in 1981 and continues today with the same ethos of dealing in fine quality English and Continental furniture, mirrors and decorative objects, from the 18th & 19th centuries. Now under the stewardship of Mark and his wife, Louise, we take pride in maintaining the high standards which William set more than 50 years ago.
W.J.Gravener Antiques are proud members of LAPADA, The London and Provincial Antique Dealers Association.
We offer an approachable and friendly service and we are always happy to hear from clients, both new and established.

An outstanding 18th century bureau bookcase attributed to Vile & Cobb. Raised on bold ogee bracket feet above which are three long and two short drawers with rococo handles and escutcheons. The fall front opens to reveal a wonderful interior of archaded pigeon hole, small drawers and a central cupboard which pulls out and has secret compartments hidden in the back. The upper section has mirrored doors, with candle slides under and foliate carving to the top of the doors. The bookcase is topped off with a fine Swan-neck cornice with carved moldings, frieze and patera. 2520mm high, 1140mm wide and 650mm deep. English.
