American Bow Front Chest of Drawers in Solid Oak
It’s difficult to know where to begin when describing this impressive chest of drawers....probably best to list the facts.
Manufactured in Boston MA by the Cobb Buzzell Co. Our research has unearthed that this company only traded between 1890 and 1900.
To paraphrase a popular tv advert ‘there is no veneer in here’. This piece has been constructed with the most fantastic quarter sawn solid oak which displays the asscociated striking grain pattern. The drawer linings are of solid cherry and beautifully polished on the interior faces, therefore this chest carries a lot of weight.
A practical size and arrangement of 2 over 5 drawers, the gentle bow fronted design with reeded columns terminating in tapered legs. Brown porcelain and brass casters to the feet. This piece probably had a shallow up stand to the rear edge of the top, now lacking. Original brass handles throughout. All drawers run smoothly.
This piece was acquired from the Estate of the artist Richard Beer. A mid 20th century artist who travelled Europe painting and drawing mainly architecture. Plenty of his life and career may be found online including a World of Interiors magazine feature that gives many images of his Primrose Hill home.
A really interesting and useful piece of storage antique furniture that is quite a rare find in the U.K.
