A Fine, Rare and Large Antique John A. Cilbert of London Toleware Tea Canister.

(With an old Conversion to a Lamp)

An antique original and dating to the 19th century, this wonderful Toleware tea canister is of rectangular section and large and handsome proportions.

The exterior with the original old black japanned paint throughout and decorated to the one side with a wonderful chinoiserie scene of a Chinese gentleman.

The canister comes with the original lid and still bears the John A. Cilbert badge to the back, as shown.

The surface patina of this item is what makes it....the paint is jaded, pitted, worn, chipped and displays a wonderful crackle...the kind that can only come from years of use and curing. No restoration or later paint whatsoever.

With an older / vintage conversion to a lamp with period brasswork and double bulb holder, this lovely object has been a lamp for many years and is not to be confused with either a reproduction or a 'modern' conversion.

Now becoming hard to find and quite simply a knock-out piece for the interior designer or decorator, this is a beautiful, rare and functional piece that will become the finishing touch lighting feature to any room, contemporary or antique themed alike.
