A Pine Longcase Clock by Voyce of Mitcheldean
An early 18th century 'cottage' pine longcase clock of small proportions. A moulded hood pediment with fixed turned side columns to the hood door. A long trunk door to the slim case. A very small 9" square brass dial with silvered chapter ring. Nicely made blued steel hands and early crown head corner cast brass spandrels. An interesting mechanism with well finished steel work and large original cast bell. A 30 hour duration mechanism. Circa. 1715
The Voyce family of clockmakers are well regarded and interesting makers in the Forest of Dean. The family tree and information is shown in Dowlers' 'Gloucestershire Clock and Watchmakers' book. John Voyce was born in 1697 and died in 1736.
