19th C Longcase Clock Y felinheli (Port Dinorwic)

1 of 6
This large and absolutely stunning longcase clock made by John Banks of Port Dinorwic as it was known in the 19th century, the old English name. We have just taken delivery of it and has spent many years in a private house in Lincolnshire, the former owner had passed away, we are unable to find out how this got from North Wales to Lincolnshire. It is fantastic condition, the case is quite stunning with large lions claw feet and is also in perfect working order but the movement is quite tarnished so it will be stripped and cleaned.
The face is nicely painted with a moon roller at the top with 2 moon faces, a painting of a rural cottage and another with a small sailing boat, 4 corners of the face showing the four great continents and the painters idea of what an aligator and an elephant looked like. across the centre of the face is John Banks Port Dinorwic
The proportions are
Height 93"
Width of hood 27"
Width across the feet 32"
Depth of case 10"
Depth including the feet is 13"
John Banks was a known clock maker along with his son in victorian times, we haven't managed to find any other examples by him or in fact any other clocks made in Port Dinorwic. We would be most interested if anyone has an example. We have been dealing in antiques for over 4o years and gained a vast amount of knowledge. We carry out research for most of our items giving our customers some history to their purchases.
We welcome collections especially clocks because of their delicate nature, however delivery can always be arranged.
Our business has recently been relocated to Horncastle from Scotland where we were known as West Bay Homes and Antiques changing our name due to location.
As we sometimes get called away please ring first if travelling from a distance to see us to avoid disappointment.
