8 inch Dial Eastern Railway Fusee Wall Clock
This glorious looking antique clock by John Walker, London, is totally original.
The 8 day duration, 4 pillar, gut fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement and rectangular plates.
Behind an 8" diameter painted iron dial with its original base paint and the typical John Walker hands (black painted brass with a pronounced spade to the hour hand). Having an outer divided minute track with triangular hour markings, Roman hour numerals and the centre bearing "B.R.(E)" and numbered "9533" (this is also written on the rear of the dial and the number is stamped onto the rear of the case).
Contained in a dark mahogany case with a one-piece shaped surround. The back box has a side access door and a locking and cockbeaded regulation door to the rounded bottom. Also having a polished cast brass bezel with snapped-in flat glass.
Records show that this clock was re-assigned in 1923 to Boston Railway station in Lincolnshire.
John Walker were manufactures of antique clocks and are best known for supplying timepieces to the principal railway companies of the day. They supplied them with clocks and watches and also maintained and serviced them. John Walker started in business in 1845 and the company were still in existence as late as 1980. Their main location was 1 South Molton Street but they had various premises in London.
