A pair of highly decorated Japanese folding shelves dating to around 1890. Black lacquer with gilded edge ground onto which are hand painted a total of 8 panels of exquisite period Japanese scenes (suspect they depict high society living, possibly court scenes). The detail in the painting is very good, using various colours of gold for the clothing and buildings etc. which are then heightened with red green and black detailing.

Each shelf is all original , the hinges and the hook lock are all in great order, no issues with loose joints or being unable to lock in place. they are ready to hang. Condition is commensurate with age and material, of their type these are in very good condition (please see the photos, if there is any query contact us, we will happily answer any request) Buchanan and Laing Galleries are a private client business.
