19th Century French domed, bombe walnut chest Walnut French 19th century %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is an exceptional 19th-century French walnut with string inlay chest. This very unusual chest has a domed top and is bombe shaped to the sides which creates an unbelievable stylish shape to the piece of antique furniture. I believe that the chest might've been used as a travelling chest and is studded on the edges of both sides with brass studs for protection when moved around or from place to place. This very unusual chest open to the side due to its lovely bombe shape. This is the first time I've seen a chest like this and can't find any other similar example.
Condition report: The handles are later (but still in period) or might have been moved at a later stage due to coming loose from usage. There are also later screws used on the hinges of the chest. Once again due to wear and tear thus thicker screws were used more recently to secure the hinges again.
