18th Century Tea Table
A most unusual 18th century Georgian mahogany tea table with a superbly carved decorative top. There are 12 wells (sometimes called reserves) which were originally used for a traditional Georgian tea party. The dark Cuban mahogany is of the very best quality. To produce this quality and durability the timber was soaked in water for up to ten years. The carved foliate decoration is exquisite and of skilled craftsmanship- the timber being rendered so hard by curing. The top is constructed from a single piece of mahogany and the table stands on castors. It is a highly decorative piece of antique furniture in excellent condition and would grace any country house.
