A fine Italian Walnut marquetry inlaid Commode from the Emilia Romagna region of Italy and dating from c 1770. Heavily influenced by 18th Century Milanese cabinet maker Giueppe Maggiolini, the marquetry inlay being typical of his regional style of the late 18th Century.
The rectangular top inlaid with various timbers and with central oval panel depicting the Abrahamic scene of sacrifice with angelic intervention above three long drawers with brass handles ( later) resting on carved tapering legs. The whole profusely inlaid in various timbers in the Romanic neo Classical style. Fine original patina and outstanding mellow colour. Excellent condition with original finish and with various minor marks, scratches, abrasions etc consistent with age and use. There is a circular watermark on the top front right corner ( see photos)
