18th Century Antique Coffer, English Oak Furniture

This is an antique coffer dating to the early 18th century.
The fluted stiles extend through the skirt moulding to the floor forming feet and raising the coffer a couple of inches from the ground.
Sitting below a reciprocating carved frieze and mirrored around a central fluted muntin, a heavily carved columned arcade with floral and foliate detail decorates a pair of panes that have been hinged to open offering excellent access without the need to lift the main lid – complete with working locks and keys.
The plain field panels to the side and back compliment the heavy three panel top which is detailed with chamfered trims around the panels and fluting delineation. The top hinging to the voluminous storage within.
Crafted in English oak, the deep rich hues and aged patina add to the character of this example of centuries old English antique furniture.
