Swiss Pewter Master Flagon/Kelchkanne from Wallis (Valais)
canton, Switzerland, 1787.
Typical Swiss design with heart shaped cover and two acorn seeds on top of thumbpiece. There is a "Wallis Shield with Stars" touchmark on the lid, also stamped "Fin", which indicates the highest quality of pewter (Etain Fin (less 10% lead)).
The year "1787" is stamped below the rim together
with another hardly visible master touchmark.
Very heavy - just over 1.6kg.
Great collector's item and a genuine statement piece. This item is available to view at the Red House Antiques Centre in York.

Dimensions23cm (9in) tall plus a thumb lift (26.6cm in total). The bottom is 14cm (5 1/2 in)in diameter. The lid is intact with working hinge. There is a hairline split (ca 10cm long shown in the last photo) along the base which is not visible when displayed and the flagon is still stable and sturdy.
