Victorian Stained Pine Trunk
This antique trunk is constructed from solid pine, which has been stained dark, and dates from c.1870. It is a nice country piece and was probably originally an old tool chest. It would make a nice blanket box or coffee table. The chest has a hinged lift-up lid, but is missing its stay. It retains its original lock and carrying handles, but please note that no key is present.
Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected from an antique country piece, and the piece is overall a little faded. There is some shrinkage cracking in places and some areas of minor wood loss, including to the top at the back. The lock has been cut and so is unusable, and no key is present. The original escutcheon is missing its cover. There are some signs of old woodworm to the sides and base - this is not active but has been retreated as a precaution.
