This is an unusual late Victorian Sterling Silver Salt Spoon. The spoon has a quite deep round bowl and there are four graduated balls at the top of the stem. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The salt spoon is made in Birmingham by silversmiths Hilliard & Thomason and dates to 1886. John Hilliard & John Thomason began their partnership around 1847, making a wide range of personal and domestic silverware. They remained in business until the early years of the 20th century.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and just the wear that you would expect in an item of this age and use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salt spoon is 6.8cm / 2.7ins long and weighs 4.8g / 0.17oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the inside of the bowl are a little rubbed but clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter m for 1886, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the H & T makers' mark for Hilliard & Thomason.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
