Victorian George Jones Majolica Fox Dish Tray
Charming George Jones majolica tray with a fox creeping out of the foot rim and over the edge on one side and his tail wrapped around the foot of the dish and up over the rim on the other. The dish features a turquoise ground, ochre rim and overlapping moulded maple leaves. Very finely modeled detail to the fox facial features, paws and texture of the fur. Fully marked to the back with the George Jones seal mark and diamond registration stamp. Design registered in 1869, the printed mark is a bit obscure but I think it shows a date letter for this year also.
Reference: George Jones Ceramics 1861-1951, Cluett, plate 38.
It measures 29cm (11 3/4") wide, 25.5cm (10") deep and 10cm (4") high.
Condition is excellent: the tip of the fox's left ear has been professionally and invisibly restored. No damage or other restoration and minimal surface wear, a small firing line across the tail, a very nice example. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
Price includes UK shipping. Worldwide shipping is also available, please ask for a cost.
We wish to ensure all our customers are happy with their purchases and offer a full no quibble return policy for all items returned within 14 days. We ask that returns are notified within 7 days where possible. Return postage is the buyer's responsibility in terms of cost and safeguarding the item through transit.
