This is a fine Victorian Stoneware Ale Jug in the classic Harvest Style with a Sterling Silver rim. The jug is bulbous at the bottom narrowing to the neck and holds 2 pints. The body is adorned with sprigged decoration of trees, huntsmen, dogs, a windmill and assorted country folk.

Traditionally used to serve ale to the farm workers outdoors at the busy harvest time, this is a versatile jug of good size that will hold any liquid be it beer, water, lemonade, Pimm's or whatever may be your personal favourite.

The ale jug is made by Doulton in their Lambeth factory and dates to the year 1900. The company didn't become Royal Doulton until 1902. The silver rim is made by W & G Neal of London.

Condition is extremely good with no chips or cracks in the stoneware and just one tiny ding in the silver rim, which is only to be expected after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The jug stands 20.5cm / 8.1ins high and is 12cm / 4.7ins in diameter at its widest point. It weighs 1.04kg / 36.7oz.

The hallmarks on the silver rim show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter e for 1900 and the W.N over G.N makers' mark for W & G Neal.

The base has the Doulton Lambeth stamp, the product number 5664 and the d & two squares mark for Doulton artist Olive Dale.
