Superb quality Gillows mahogany chest of drawers of handsome countryhouse proportions, beautiful figured top, choice fiddleback mahogany drawer fronts, original handles, escutcheons, and locks and raised on original 'melon' turned feet. Mahogany linings and good panelled back. Stamped GILLOWS and signed by the individual cabinet maker...Thomas Whiteside.
English: Circa 1830-1860

Note: There are two Thomas Whitesides listed in Susan Stuart ( Gillows Of Lancaster and London 1730-1840). The first was nephew of Edward Whiteside, cabinet maker of Oxford Street, and was apprenticed aged 14 to L. Redmayne(one of the Partners at Gillows) on 5.8.1816, and the other was Thomas of Turnham who was apprenticed again to L.Redmayne on 21.6.1819.
