Superb Huge BURMANTOFTS Jardiniere & Stand c.1890
A stunning huge BURMANTOFTS FAIENCE ART POTTERY Jardiniere Stand & Matching Planter produced in the Burmantofts Leeds factory between 1882 and 1904. . With a combined height of c 1280 cm this is one of the largest and most striking pieces of Burmantofts we have offered for sale.
The enormous planter features heavily embossed/moulded stylised grapes, vines and 2 wonderful horned heads. There are 2 twisted vine handles. The matching pedestal stand sits on 4 clawed feet and has similar grapes & vines decoration. Both pieces are finished with the iconic Burmantofts high gloss FAIENCE glaze in a rich treacle colour.
In fantastic antique condition with no apparent chips or damage. There is a small shallow glaze hairline in the inner rim (~7cm) which does not appear to penetrate beyond the inner glaze and is mentioned only for completeness.
Fully marked on base of both parts "BURMANTOFTS FAIENCE ENGLAND" with design no.1887 on planter, design no.1888 on pedestal.
Pedestal height ~870mm, base dia. ~330mm. Planter height ~410mm, ~430mm dia.
A truly wonderful example of Burmantofts Art Pottery from the end of the 19th C.
