Staffordshire Figure Eugenie Empress Of France
An intriguing Staffordshire pottery figure of the Empress Eugenie seated in a throne with incised stars to the back and with the baby Louis-Napoleon in her arms. It is finished with a pearlware type glaze and is decorated very much in the style and colours of early 19th century figures with the addition of a few gilt accents. Raised lettering on the front to read Empress Of France has been charmingly misspelled and then being picked out in enamel (the F of France has also been formed as an E but the decorator was at least able to recognise that one!). The subject matter dates it to c.1856.
It measures 17.8cm (7") high and 9cm (3 1/2") wide by 10.2cm (4") deep.
In good condition: there has been an unusual clay based repair to the underside which may be stabilising a section to the back left corner that appears to have been reattached. No other faults and minor handling wear. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
Price includes UK shipping. Worldwide shipping is also available, please ask for a cost.
