Royal Doulton Water Jug with Pewter Lid, c.1910-20
This is a stylish and practical Royal Doulton Water Jug with a Pewter rim and hinged lid. The jug has been lathe turned for most of the body giving it a distinctive ring decoration. The upper part below the pewter rim features a deep blue band decorated with fern leaves and semi-circular roundels.
The jug is made at Doulton's Lambeth factory and is signed by Olive Dale and Ethel Beard, who were both senior assistants at the factory. Olive Dale worked from around 1910/12 up until 1921, whilst Ethel Beard had a long career from 1890 through into the 1930s.
Condition is good with no chips or cracks and just a shallow scratch in the blue glaze on one side plus a couple of small firing flaws in the body. The pewter lid has no dings or dents and the hinge operates smoothly. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The jug stands 23.5cm / 9.25ins high and is 10cm / 3.9ins in diameter across the base. It weighs 776g / 27.4oz.
The base of the jug bears the usual array of Doulton marks. There is the Royal Doulton Lion & Crown mark introduced in 1902, the :d mark for Olive Dale and the EB mark for Ethel Beard and the product code 1689.
