Rare Chamberlain Porcelain Shell & Canoe Pen Tray
A delicate canoe shape porcelain pen tray by Chamberlain's Worcester with incurved shell shaped ends, fully gilded inside and all the detail pick out in gilt. Beautifully painted inside and out with garden flowers and with a gilt dentil rim and gilt band around the base. Printed mark to the base with Bond Street address, 1816-1840.
These pen trays by Chamberlain are very rare and the few known shapes are documented in "Chamberlain Worcester Porcelain 1788-1852" by Godden, page 274 where this design is described as "Shell and canoe shape" and an example documented in the Chamberlain sale records dated for February 1821.
It measures 21.5cm (8 1/2") long, 5.2cm (2") wide and 5.5cm (2 1/8") high.
Condition is excellent with no damage or restoration and very minor handling wear. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque.
