Isaac Van Amburgh was a famous American lion tamer. He came to England in 1839 where Queen Victoria is said to have watched him perform on several occasions. She was so captivated by his shows that she commissioned Landseer to paint him.
This jug is a souvenir of Van Amburgh's visit to England
